Dorothee B. Bartels, Ph.D., M.Sc.

Dorothee Bartels, PhD, MSc, is Head of Real World Evidence (RWE) and Digital Sciences at UCB Biosciences GmbH. Previously she was Clinical and Real World Data Strategy Lead at X, Moonshot (Alphabet Inc., former Google X), after having been 12 years with Boehringer Ingelheim as Corporate Head of Global Epidemiology and then Chief Digital Science Officer in the innovation Lab, Bi X.

She maintains appointments as Associate Professor for Public Health and Epidemiology at Hannover Medical School (MHH), as Adjunct Professor for Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University, and teaches in the course “Successful implementation of digital health” at the Institute for Communication and Leadership (Switzerland). Her aim is to enhance evidence generation based on real world data, incl. patient generated health data (digital epidemiology), applying ML/AI in combination with established epidemiological-statistical methods – from drug development to drug use in routine clinical practice.
